8 Tips to Develop a Consistent Exercise Routine

Two friends high fiving after finishing their workout

One of the biggest challenges with exercising is staying consistent, especially when you’re trying to lose weight.

Dr. Wilfred Aguila is a board-certified bariatric surgeon with over 20 years of experience at Weight Success Centers™ in Tampa and Brandon, Florida. He and his team provide insights on exercise routines, healthy eating strategies, and medical support like semaglutide or tirzepatide to help people finally lose the weight.

If you want to learn how to be consistent long enough to see results, here are some tips to help you get into a regular exercise routine.

1. Start Small

The key to success is starting with small, manageable goals. Whether it’s a 10-minute walk or a quick yoga session, these small steps add up over time and help you build a lasting habit.

2. Find What You Enjoy

The best workout is the one you enjoy, so try different exercises until you find what makes you happy. Whether it’s dancing, hiking, or lifting weights, doing something fun will make you more likely to stick with it.

3. Set Realistic Goals

If you’re not currently a morning person, you don’t have to set a goal to get to the gym at 5:00 AM every morning. That’s will probably feel too hard. Just set a goal to get there a few times a week when it actually works for you and build from there.

4. Create a Schedule

Choose specific days and times to work out and stick to them like an important appointment. Making exercise a non-negotiable part of your day will help you stay on track.

5. Mix Up Your Workouts

Doing the same workout over and over can get boring quickly. Keep things exciting by trying new activities, like swimming, cycling, dancing, or strength training. Plus, it’s great for your muscles to change it up!

6. Track Your Progress

Keep track of your workouts and celebrate small victories along the way. Seeing your progress in black and white can be a great motivator to keep going.

7. Partner with a Friend or Coach

Exercising with a friend or coach helps with accountability. It’s easier to stay consistent when someone else is counting on you or guiding your progress.

8. Consider Medical Support

If you need extra help with weight loss, treatments like semaglutide or tirzepatide can complement your exercise routine. They’ll help regulate your appetite and make it easier to stick to your goals. That consistency in your diet can give you the momentum you need to get into your exercise routine and lose weight.
